Connie Binsfeld papers, 1984-1990.

Alphabetical subject files. This collection documents Connie Binsfeld's career as a Senator for the Thirty-sixth District in Michigan. Part of the file includes 1990 constituent correspondence and photographs of Senator Binsfeld in front of the Michigan capitol, and proof sheets of Binsfeld pointing the Michigan Trail Routes (1990). The series also includes newsletter and flyers mailed to constituents. Some are updates on Binsfeld's activities, and others focus on specific issues, including school funding, the environment and agriculture. The "Arnell Engstrom Children's Center Citizens Advisory Council" folder contains correspondence, CAC guidelines and some meeting minutes. The Council, of which Binsfeld was a member, discussed issues such as visitation, confidentiality, budget issues and health and sex education. The Arnell Engstrom Children's Center was located on the Traverse City Regional Psychiatric Hospital grounds in Traverse City, Michigan. There is a folder on a proposed bombing range in the Huron Beach area of Preque Isle County. Local residents complained that a bombing range would be noisy and would adversely affect tourism and the environment. The folder contains correspondence with constituents and Michigan Department of Military Affairs personnel, and a copy of a signed petition in opposition to the bombing range. The "Camp Grayling" folders document local resident relations with the Michigan Army National Guard camp, which was located in Binsfeld's district. Residents were sometimes concerned with noise levels and possible environmental problems. Materials consist mainly of correspondence from constituents and Michigan Department of Military Affairs officials.
